AD - GIFTED: I was kindly invited along by Scandinavia Events to one of their Christmas party evenings but all views are, as always, honest and entirely my own.
Generally speaking, winter is when we all go into a hibernation of sorts. With the colder and (even more) unpredictable weather making venturing out into the countryside less appealing, it’s all too easy to spend every evening tucked up under a blanket inside your house.
And while there is nothing wrong with that, it is entirely possible to have a cosy night outside during the winter too!
Don’t believe me? I’m not the only one who thinks so – Scandinavia Events also agree and are full steam ahead in proving it.
Journey just a matter of minutes out of Milton Keynes in nearly every direction and you’ll find yourself faced with sprawling countryside but this winter, go just 15 minutes away to just outside of Cosgrove and you’ll come across a Nordic Tipi Wonderland. And even if you're not familiar with the countryside lanes, the sparkling lights standing out against the darkness will lead you there.
You won’t need to pull on your wellies for this evening out in the countryside though – with wooden flooring down inside and a lovely hessian red carpet-esque entrance, you won’t find any mud around.
Once inside you’ll find a beautifully lit wonderland – complete with fairy lights, snow covered Christmas trees, and a photo booth off to one side.
Lined with large wooden tables that circle around a perfect sized dance floor, with a twinkling disco ball lighting it up from above, the inside of the tipi is large without feeling impossible to fill.
And the entire thing is brought together by the live Jazz band that take to the floor later on in the evening.
Three Course Meal
But the real draw of these events is the food. And oh boy, it’s not something that you’ll want to miss out on. We took our seats and poured a glass of wine each, which came complimentary on the table and then the food began to arrive.
First up was a large sharing platter to start, with everything from brioche bread rolls to the most mouth-wateringly good pigs in blankets that I’ve ever had.
Next up was the street style mains from local business, The Rub Woodsmoked BBQ; I opted for the Christmas special burger which came in a brioche bun and was filled with pulled turkey and cranberry chutney but there were a number of other choices including a halloumi burger (which my friend confirmed was equally as tasty), a pulled pork burger and hot dogs. Vegan and vegetarian options were also available for every course, and each one looked just as tasty as the meat options did.
Finally, the meal was rounded off with another sharing platter for dessert, which was filled to the brim with tasty treats from mince pies to profiteroles.
