Book Review: The Idea in You

‘The Idea in You’ by Martin Amor and Alex Pellew is definitely not my typical ‘go-to’ read but my nan bought it for me a little while ago now (she obviously thought that I needed some inspiration in my life hah!) and this week, in-between essay writing and generally drowning in my uni workload, I finally found the time to sit down and read it. And once I’d started, I couldn’t stop. This book is absolutely full to the brim with inspiring quotes, ‘do it now’ activities to motivate you and easy steps to follow in order to help you achieve your dreams.

The Idea in You by Martin Amor and Alex Pellew

While right now I am definitely not looking to follow these incredible people and launch a brand new product into the market, I do have my little handmade horse shoe home decor store which it provided some useful tips for and I’m pretty sure that even if you don’t have a small store right now, everyone will agree that a little bit of inspiration never hurt anyone!

This is what Martin Amor and Alex Pellew had to say about their book…

Do you have an idea in you? A hobby, a project, a product … something that could change your life?

The Idea in You is a bulletproof system for finding the right idea and shaping it in to a success – on your own terms.

With advice from the people behind the likes of Pizza Pilgrims, Parkrun and Decoded, The Idea In You
will show you what to expect, how to think and what to do when launching your own venture.

Making your idea happen is possible – and it will be one of the most inspiring and energizing experiences of your life.

What are you waiting for?

And here is what I have to say…

This book is 100% worth a read (albeit quite an easy one, but I think in this case that is quite a good thing!), even if you’re not planning on starting a business or quitting your day job immediately – I can guarantee that this book will at least inspire you to get up and do something with your life right now, even if that something is just going for a little walk instead of lying around on the sofa eating hobnobs (their words, not mine). I will admit that I found it a bit repetitive at times and there were moments when they quite literally repeated entire paragraphs so I did skim read bits of the book, but on the whole it was full of huge chunks of useful information which are split into easy to follow sections. I absolutely loved that there were mini interviews with real small business owners and that there is an entire section at the back of the book purely devoted to providing a huge list of useful contacts, websites etc that would undoubtedly be a wonderful resource for anyone feeling a bit lost at the start of their new business venture!

Overall I can now say that I am quite glad that my nan bought me this book and I’m actually a little bit sorry that it has taken me so long to read it, but with that said I can safely say that while I was a bit dubious before I began, reading it was definitely time well spent on my part. I definitely put it down at the end feeling inspired to get out of bed and do something more with my life! (Even if at this moment in time in my life that purely meant getting up and finishing my Victorian Literature essay)

So what are you waiting for? Pick up your copy of this wonderful little life manual today! (psst. If you order the physical copy rather than the ebook it comes as a beautiful hardback, with an attached ribbon bookmark. Which y’know always manages to sway me to splash out a little bit more on a copy.)
